Vine grafting is an art which is perfected in the Wellington district, which supplies 95% of all grafted vines in South Africa. The nursery was founded by Jacques' late father, Awie Smit, who named it after a section of the farm called "Constantia". In course of time the nursery has been diversified into producing its own registered rootstock material and expertise in selecting scions. It has a viticultural extension service to help their customers grow distinctive vineyards of note - whether for producing wine, table grapes or raisins.

Compliance and Registration.

Our vines comply with the standards set by the South African Plant Certification Scheme.

The nursery is registered with the Deciduous Fruit Plant Improvement Association as well as the Vine Improvement Association.
Certification for the wine grapes are issued by the Vine Improvement Ass. and certification for table grapes are issued by the Deciduous Plant and Fruit Association. Constantia nursery has its own SA Certified rootstock mother plantations, which are monitored very closely. These plantations are also inspected and certified by the above mentioned boards.
